Investing in your Skin: Affordable Organic Skincare

Affordable organic skincare routine

A theme that speaks loudly to me at the moment is affordability.

Wellness, and for me that means natural wellness shouldn't just be for the rich. Right now, organic skincare is big business and the cost of products can be eye watering.

Do we really need to spend big to get results or can we support our skin just as well without the hefty price tag?

You don’t need to spend big to get great skin.

I've been working in the natural and organic skincare industry for over 20 years and I believe there are just as effective, and often free ways to get our best skin ever.

Here are my top 3:

Fancy packaging and long ingredient lists don't guarantee results

The first natural product that caught my eye due to the sheer numbers we sold was a 100% pure, cold pressed rosehip seed oil. To those who bought it, it felt like the ultimate skincare secret as it's not expensive, even when organic and it can be used straight on the skin.

Rosehip seed oil isn’t the only pure oil that your skin will love. We love camellia oil or argan oil too. I like to blend at least 2 or 3 oils together as they will each provide your skin with slightly different nutrients, just like eating a variety of vegetables.

If you are happy to forgo the fancy packaging, these simple oils needn't be expensive. I love this kind of simple skincare, however as we age, don't forget to support your skin with extra hydration too.

Hydrating Mists and Serums will keep the skin glowing and plump (look for hyaluronic acid as a key ingredient), and the money you've saved on the oils will help pay for a good quality option.

A little extra time and touch can go a long way

Eastern cultures put a lot more emphasis on facial massage, exercises and similar techniques than we do here in the West, and for good reason. Facial exercises, massage and lymphatic draining can do wonders for the tone and texture and radiance of our skin by tightening muscles and increasing circulation.

The best thing about them is that they are free! You only need invest a few minutes a day to see results.

Our mindset and self-talk are key to what we see in the mirror

This may not seem like a genuine “low-cost” skincare hack but I think it's almost the most important thing to say. Having realistic expectation about how we look, in particular as we age is key to being happy with what we see in the mirror.

Mass media shows us images that are touched up or completely fake and it makes us feel “not enough.”

I like to explain that our face is an expression of what is happening inside, emotionally and physically. Taking the time to look after your physical and emotional whole-self, showing yourself that you are worth the extra time for facial massage at bedtime, or the time out of your day to connect with a friend, or move your body, or the extra effort to cook good food from scratch will show in your skin: and the smile on your face will bring you more compliments than any fancy facial serum!

A few simple, natural ingredients, a few extra minutes and a genuine smile can make us feel a million dollars, especially if it only cost you a few.
