A is for Argan Oil

Argan Oil for Skincare Science

Best for: All Skin Types

Something I love about working with plants and other natural ingredients is that very often the practices of ancient cultures are still valuable today. So many of my formulations contain ingredients that have been used for hundreds (or thousands) of years from cultures around the world without question. They use them because they work. And now, thanks to science, we understand why they work. Argan oil is the perfect example.

Argan oil is often called “liquid gold” in Morocco, because of how valuable it is. The oil is made from the fallen fruits of the argan tree (argania spinosa), which is only natively grown in southwest Morocco. These rare trees are now UNESCO protected to ensure their conservation.

In addition to the rarity of the trees, argan oil is woven into Morrocan life as both a cooking oil and as part of their beauty regime. For centuries, argan oil has been used by Morrocans to protect their skin from the hot, dry climate, to help heal scars, and cure pimples. They know that argan oil is an excellent moisturizer and promotes a fair complexion; but how does it work?

What Science Has to Say

Argan oil is very high in vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant, and is readily absorbed into the skin. It also has natural antibacterial and fungicidal properties. There have been many studies done with argan oil, and it seems that the term “liquid gold” is well deserved.

  • A 2013 study showed the antioxidants in argan oil helped to protect the skin against free radical sun damage by preventing hyperpigmentation.
  • In 2016, scientists demonstrated that skin elasticity was improved through using an argan oil based cream.
  • And in 2015, another study showed an improvement in post-menopausal skin elasticity after using argan oil on the skin.

All of these studies (and more) show that argan oil does exactly what Morrocans have always known: it’s a liquid gold that improves the skin’s look and feel.

Incorporate Argan Oil into Your Skincare Routine

The first product that I finalized the formulation of is also my number one best seller: Argan & Frankincense Facial Oil.

I created this product to be lightweight, easily absorbed, and something that everyone can use. With just three ingredients, (organic cold-pressed argan oil, organic frankincense oil and organic neroli oil), it benefits skin tone and texture, unwanted pigmentation, and improves radiance. It also targets acne scars and other imperfections.

Important How-To Information

It’s important to use your skincare products correctly to get the maximum benefit. Here are some tips when using the argan oil products:

  1. Always apply your moisturizer or facial oil to a damp face. Moisten your face with water alone, or for increased absorption and benefits use one of the hydrating mists or hyaluronic serums.

  2. The facial oils make wonderful night treatments, but can also be used as a light daytime moisturizer in the warmer months of summer.

  3. Try the Argan & Frankincense Facial Oil as an under-eye treatment.

  4. Experiment with your facial oils; The Argan & Frankincense Facial Oilcan be used as an under-eye treatment, on scars, to smooth frizzy, split ends, and smells divine when you place a few drops in a warm bath.

Now that you know why I love argan oil so much, which product are you going to try next?
